چکیده

Pittillo, Robert F. (Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, Ala.), Mary Lucas, Robert T. Blackwell, and Carolyn Woolley. Modification of radiation damage of bacteria by folic acid antagonists. J. Bacteriol. 90:1548-1551. 1965.-The folic acid analogues, 2,4-diamino-6-methylpteridine, amethopterin, and aminopterin, have been found to sensitize certain bacteria, especially Escherichia coli, to the lethal action of ionizing irradiation. Data are presented which indicate that (i) the compounds must be present during the irradiation period for maximal sensitization to be observed, (ii) the sensitizing effect can be nullified by cysteine or cysteamine, (iii) the sensitizing effect occurs in a number of diverse bacterial genera, and (iv) folic acid neither sensitizes bacteria to irradiation nor prevents the sensitization caused by these antifolic agents.

Antibacterial response of Cd-TiO2/PEG/folic acid nanocomposite under ultraviolet, visible light, or ultrasonic irradiation

Synthesis and characterization of Cd-TiO2/PEG/FA nanocomposite as a biomaterial is the main aim of this research. Cd-doped TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by solvothermal assisted sol-gel method. Then, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was added to the as-synthesized NPs in order to modify their surface and to prevent agglomeration. In the next step, folic acid (FA) was conjugated to Cd-TiO2/...

The Effect of Folic Acid-Conjugated Coated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles in The Radiosensitization of Human Cervical Carcinoma Cell Line at Clinical Electron energies (6MeV)

Background and Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of Folic Acid-Conjugated polyglycerol coated iron oxide nanoparticles on the radiosensitivity of HeLa cells when irradiated with 6 MeV electron beams. Materials and Methods: Different concentrations of iron oxide nanoparticles (PG-SPIONs and FA-PG-SPIONs (25, 50, 100, 200 µg ml-1)) were synthesized by...

Protective effect of ferulic acid on ionizing radiation induced damage in bovine serum albumin

Background: Ionizing radiation causes deleterious effects on living system mainly due to oxidative damages of macromolecules and protein is the major target due to its abundance. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ionizing radiation induced changes in the molecular properties of bovine serum albumin (BSA) its secondary and tertiary structures, degradation, cross linking and...

Possible radioprotective effect of folic acid supplementation on low dose ionizing radiation-induced genomic instability in vitro.

Ionizing radiation (IR) induces DNA damage through production of single and double-strand breaks and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Folic acid (FA) prevents radiation-induced DNA damage by modification of DNA synthesis and/or repair and as a radical scavenger. We hypothesized that in vitro supplementation with FA will decrease the sensitivity of cells to genetic damage induced by low dose of io...

Gamma irradiation induced surface modification of silk fabrics for antibacterial application

Silk fabrics were modified by a treatment of silver nitrate solution (AgNO3) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a stabilizer then exposure to γ-irradiation to create antibacterial properties. Effects of the absorbed dose on treated fabrics were investigated. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns were used to confirm the presence of silver nanoparticles (AgNP...
